Marlee Poole

Operations Manager

Marlee (they/them) is a Two-Spirit Métis and mixed-European youth, born in northern Manitoba near Athapa’puskow Saka’higan (“rock on both sides of the lake”) and later raised in their ancestral homeland, the Selkirk area of the Red River Métis community. Since 2013, they have lived on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm, Skwxwú7mesh, and səlilwətaɬ Nations.
A proud policy nerd with a background in urban Indigenous health, Marlee is driven to explore the ongoing relationships between colonialism, capitalism, city planning, and community wellness. In their previous work at Vancouver Aboriginal Health Society, Marlee developed policy frameworks for revitalizing Indigenous health systems and practices in urban health care settings. Marlee is a member of the grassroots Métis youth collective Red River Echoes, has previously sat on the City of Vancouver’s Urban Indigenous Peoples’ Advisory Committee, and has advised on urban and Métis-specific UNDRIP implementation at local and regional levels.
In addition to their lived and work experiences, Marlee holds a Certificate in Indigenous Health Administration and Leadership (UBC, 2022), a Master of Public Policy and Administration (Adler University, 2021), and a B.A. in Gender, Race, Sexuality, and Social Justice (UBC, 2017). Out of office, you may find Marlee at a flea market, bookstore, or sushi spot in East Van.
